The determined upper and lower line numbers for International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) were further lowered by the Bank of America Merrill Lynch. The corporation reduced its earnings guidance, which it had put forth earlier, for the current fiscal year for the next two years to come.

The determined earnings per share (EPS) for International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM), as evaluated by Param Singh, were decreased for the present year of 2015, from $16.01 to $15.95. Singh reduced his evaluations for the years to come as well, specifically for the next three years. The net revenue after reduction stands at 84.5 billion dollars from the previous 85.5 billion dollars for fiscal 2015.

$0.1 billion have been deducted for the year ahead and for the third year, the amount was reduced from $84.8 billion to $85.5 billion. Because of the oscillatory nature of the foreign exchange (FX), for International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) first quarter of fiscal 2015, Singh forecasted a 7% year over year negative impact. A 6% reduction year-over-year is predicted for the current fiscal year because of the ever so fluctuating trends of the foreign exchange (FX).

An investment conference was held by International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) a few days back for the prospective investors. It was announced at the conference that a step forward would be taken to ensure that the company would give its full and undivided attention to fresh business ventures. Along with this resolution, the company assured its investors that it would deliver good results.

The plan of total transformation of the organization from regular businesses was broadcasted by the CEO, Ginni Rometty. The $160 dollars price target, along with the ‘Neutral’ rating that Merrill Lynch had assigned to the IBM was recapitulated by the company, the basis of which has been stated to be the allocated time for the potential turnover, as per International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM).

Mr Param Singh, the analyst, gave his view point that he sees International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) as being a defensive investment considering its tendency towards continual sales, decreasing price objects, steady balance sheets, prospective share earnings and comparatively firm margins. IBM was expected to start reducing its rates and expand the facilities provided by it and the software it provides through purchases. The company is believed to become a shareholder in the IT world in the near future. He further reported that they were being more careful in changing the judgments made for the foreign exchange (FX), along with divestures and setting them again.

Among which more than 20 mark it a ‘steady rate’ and 4 of the analysts nominated it for ‘Sell’ on the hoard. A consensus was held for a year that concluded the aimed rate to be more than $159. This analysis showed a future reduction of almost 1.5% at the closure.

International Business Machines Corp.’s (NYSE:IBM) upcoming moves in the next week will establish whether the Big Blue is really contemplating the implementation of Project Chrome or not and whether or not the implementation should raise any concerns?

Robert Cringely, a contributor at Forbes declared last week that the Big Blue is thinking of launching a scheme which is codenamed as Project Chrome. The company will be doing that in an effort to cut down most of its workforce in the current week. Cringely also thinks that this step will be a blood-bath. Last week IBM (NYSE:IBM) released its 4th quarter results which were not too encouraging.

The company’s revenues continued to decline in the 11th quarter as well. On top of that, IBM (NYSE:IBM) gave a depressing outlook for the next year which resulted in a decline in the expectations of the analysts. However, despite the fact that the expectations for the future are not too promising, the CFO of Martin Schroeter said that the company is optimistic about its cloud business.

The International Business Machines Corp. (IBM (NYSE:IBM) claims that last year proved to be a breakthrough year for the company’s cloud business. In the Fiscal year 2014, IBM (NYSE:IBM) declared that the company saw a 60% growth in its revenues from the cloud business.

The CEO of IBM (NYSE:IBM), Ginni Rometty said that in the year 2014 the company repositioned its hardware portfolio for bigger value. The company retained a service backlog of $128 billion and gathered solid revenue success across cloud along with analytics, social, mobile as well as security.

Although the company wants to make progress in its cloud business and is attempting to execute a long-term transformation in the direction, it is unable to compete with the three biggest companies that offer cloud services. The three tech giants that have managed to persistently stay at the top of cloud business are Amazon Web Service, Microsoft Windows Azure and Google Web Service.

In order to compete in the market, IBM (NYSE:IBM) has not only increased its data service but has also established around half a million servers. However, the company still has a lot more catching up to do in order to make its place in the market.

Since the beginning of 2012, the company’s shares went down 15% and in just the last year there was a 13% decline seen in IBM (NYSE:IBM)’s shares leading to a loss of $25 billion in value. In the last 52 weeks the company’s stock stayed between the ranges of $150-$199, however a 20% decline was witnessed in the last six months.

The reason behind this decline could be the free falling cash flow. IBM (NYSE:IBM) in an effort to improve its gross took away from business arms that were causing hindrance in the way of profits and hence decreased its overall sales. Ginni Rometty introduced some transformational steps that the company took to bring back the growth of the business.

Previously IBM (NYSE:IBM) in an effort to increase its EPS devoured to share buybacks. However, Rometty gave up the 2015 plan to gather $20 EPS and is now planning to cut down its share buybacks. The company will now send $6.3 billion in share buybacks which is much less than the $13.7 billion that was initially planned.

According to a recent report by Wall Street, International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) is the worst run American company during the year 2014. The company, in response to the report, said that IBM’s operations were harshly analyzed and that the company should be given a say. This did not change the situation any further; in fact Bloomberg released a report 2 days back in which it criticized the management of the company.

The important question to ask is as to what it was that made IBM the worst run company of the year. Surely, businesses make mistakes all the time. Sometimes the management has to make hard decisions and those decisions are criticized most of the time. Sometimes, even the market leaders can break and be on the lower end of spectrum. Why then was IBM given so bad reviews?

Companies report lower fundamentals sometimes, such as the profits and revenues; however it is the market that decides as to whether the company is well run or not. The report of Wall Street identified 8 businesses that were not well run during the past year. What is interesting to note here is the fact that almost all of them shared some common aspects, which included share prices, revenues and earnings per share. Most important aspect was the staples of the company. Most of these companies were taken over by outside traders and investors.

In order to be given a status of ‘poorly run,’ a company has to have a huge record of missing opportunities, bad operational choices, risks that were mismanaged, and executive troubles. To sum up, a company must have taken such decisions that call the ability of its management into question. Similarly, the company should be unable to provide enough returns to the investors.

Where the stock market of the United States had seen a boost in the last 5 years, International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) failed to keep up with the Standard & Poor’s 500 gains. The companies that were declared to be poorly run lost most of their market value during that period of time. The best example is Avon Products (NYSE: AVP). The company lost around 74 percent of its share value during the last 5 years. Moreover, its China business was a huge growth opportunity, but the management of the company turned it into nothing but a boondoggle.

But wait, this was not it. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) also saw a decline in its revenues and diluted EPS on yearly basis. The company missed numerous opportunities that could have helped the company expand further. The company’s financial position was also quite weak during the year 2014. The management of the company failed to properly address the concerns of the investors.

Coming to the stock prices of International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), the company, during the last trading session of January 01, 2015, started its stocks at a price of $160.41 and closed at a price of $160.44, after hitting the highest price of $161.50.

This year, the industrial Dow Jones exchange has portrayed an increase in aggregate value by almost 7% compared to last year’s closing figure. Last year, the same index increased by almost 27%, which shows how the industry has been continuously growing and expanding in the past couple of years. However, IBM (NYSE:IBM) seems to have missed out on the memo specifying this opportunity, and has, instead, acted in a manner which is detrimental to the company itself. IBM (NYSE:IBM) shares dropped 14% this year, amidst a very favorable market.

This year, IBM (NYSE:IBM) has had an average earning figure of $3.68, well below the target mark of $4.32 the company had set for itself to boost investor response. According to the company, a significant “slowdown in September” of purchases from the company has resulted in the lower earnings figure. The company had an earnings per share figure estimated at $20 by the year 2015. However, with its current performance, it has postponed this target until further notice by the company.

This poor performance by the company is not entirely because consumers have shifted away or stopped consuming products by IBM (NYSE:IBM). It is also in part due to the fact that the company is going under a major transition in an attempt to smooth-out business. Under its new model, the company aims to reduce diversity of products, selling off segments of the business producing the least profit margin for the company, in order to focus on segments making the highest profit margins for the company. High profit margin segments include cloud computing, smarter planet, growth markets, and business analytics.

In 2011, IBM (NYSE:IBM) had declared highly ambitious goals for the future, having just achieved a $20 EPS figure. The company, in its declaration, had proclaimed focus on only the four abovementioned segments, which, according to IBM (NYSE:IBM), would lead to a growth in revenue worth $20 billion by the end of 2014.

Clearly, this has not happened as the four core areas, the company had high hopes with, are not as strong as IBM (NYSE:IBM) hoped they would become. Revenue figures have actually fallen this year by 5% in growth markets segment, and only an 8% increase has been witnessed in the business analytics segment. The company has stopped mentioning its “smarter planet” segment of business altogether, especially in its financial reports, making a comparison with previous years impossible for analysts. Cloud computing has shown significantly favorable results, growing by almost 50% from 2011 to date.

However, revenue figures have not increased by $20 billion in the 2011-2015 period, a claim IBM (NYSE:IBM) had made in 2011. In fact, revenue figures have not increased at all. In the past four years, IBM (NYSE:IBM) revenue has actually fallen by approximately $9 billion, 9%.

The fault lies in IBM (NYSE:IBM)’s buyback policy, according to analysts. The company, in an attempt to raise share price, has reduced its share numbers from a whopping 1.16 billion to 990 million in the period 2011-2014. The company has reduced shares in value by paying out approx. $30 billion, an amount which has crippled the company.

IBM (NYSE:IBM), the huge technical company that we are familiar with, recently announced that it will give young companies either $10,000 a month or $120,000 in credit for using the cloud software developed by IBM (NYSE:IBM).

IBM (NYSE:IBM) has its headquarters in New York and they manufacture and market software and hardware for computers.

IBM (NYSE:IBM), a manufacturer of computers, struck a deal last week with social networking website, Twitter (NYSE:TWTR), regarding data analytics. The move, initiated by IBM (NYSE:IBM), allows the computer manufacturing company to incorporate the data, which Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) has, within its products, to meet consumer needs in a more precise manner.

In what is being termed as one of the most unlikely alliances in the technology world this year, Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) has shaken hands with IBM (NYSE:IBM) to supply the latter with data in order to run its business analytics division. According to IBM (NYSE:IBM)’s General Manager for business analytics, the move to bring in more data into the program is superb for the data analytics division of the company, because “when it’s an incredibly unique dataset like Twitter (NYSE:TWTR), the analytics become better and the decisions become clearer.”

Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) is a social networking website unlike any other in the world; it is highly basic. There is nothing innately complicated about Twitter (NYSE:TWTR), as it serves a very basic function: connecting people with other people, celebrities, and even companies like Microsoft, Google, IBM (NYSE:IBM) etc. The maximum allowed characters in a “tweet” are 140, hence each and every tweet is short, precise, and concrete.

This limiting factor makes Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) an excellent source of data for analytical purposes, as it is easier to analyze millions of users’ data, as all of it is in a single format. Also, this forces users to structure their tweets in a manner which delivers as much information within 140 characters as possible. According to Chris Moody, VP data strategy at Twitter (NYSE:TWTR), “there’s lots of information in the payload of a tweet, much more than 140 characters.”

Talking to Fortune magazine, Rennie explained that the data which will pour in from Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) will be utilized in steps: Firstly, all the data which will be provided will be uploaded on cloud tools for analytics, which will make it easier for customers to access it; Secondly, Rennie specified that specific needs of business will be targeted, and business solutions will be made in light of user data. Finally, he declared that over 10,000 consultants from all over the world will be trained and certified as experts of Twitter (NYSE:TWTR), by IBM (NYSE:IBM).

But what exactly is IBM (NYSE:IBM) going to accomplish with Twitter (NYSE:TWTR)’s data set? According to Rennie, the data will prove useful for many divisions including R&D, marketing, human resources, and logistics, as the company will be able to base its decisions on the analysis of the input of millions of consumers worldwide. Talking to Fortune magazine, Rennie said, “From an IBM perspective, we think having this data is a big differentiator in terms of our ability to attract clients.”

In all this, analysts wondered what Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) is receiving at the other end of the bargain. For Twitter (NYSE:TWTR), the biggest incentive is that its data set would be put together with other data sources in a manner which would make it a fruitful analytical tool for businesses worldwide. According to Moody, “[Twitter’s] data is useful[; it] need[s]someone to come along and build value on top of it and combine it with other data sources.”
