Bloomberg recently reported that Motorola (NYSE:MSI) is looking for a potential sell out. The company is the maker of cell phones, walkie-talkies and radio equipment and had decided to explore this option for its revenues and earnings were going low for quite a while now. Motorola is an 87 year old firm, and according to the reports of Bloomberg, the potential buyers include defense contractors as well as private entities. These firms include General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) and Honeywell (NYSE:HON).

Motorola (NYSE:MSI) is in contact with some of its advisors in order to look for a buyer. According to some sources familiar with the matter, the company had been looking for some buyers for quite a while now. Chances are that Motorola (NYSE:MSI) will be sealing the deal in the latter part of the year 2015. Motorola (NYSE:MSI) was formed when Motorola separated from its mobile division back in 2011 due to huge pressure from Carl Icahn, an activist investor of the company.

Motorola (NYSE:MSI) has a market cap of $15.6 billion only. The production segment of Motorola was later on given the name of Motorola Mobility Holdings, however, the unit divested just a few months later. Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) bought the unit for a total of $12.4 billion. It was with the sale of its phone unit to Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) that the company ended its future. It is important to mention here that Motorola (NYSE:MSI) was the first company that introduced the concept of mobile phone back in 1980s.

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) sold this phone unit to Lenovo Group, a PC maker company located in China. According to some sources, Raytheon is planning to expand its business, and for that matter, Motorola (NYSE:MSI) can be a great deal. Raytheon acquired a surveillance and a cyber-security company back in 2014 for a total of $420 million in order to improve its intelligence segment. Dave Wajsgras, the chief financial officer of the company, recently mentioned to the media that the company will be expanding its cyber business together with the electronic warfare.

The CFO further announced that the company wants to make acquisitions related to technology so as to build its market. According to some analyst companies, Raytheon may be a potential buyer for Motorola (NYSE:MSI). Motorola Solutions (NYSE:MSI) manufactures radio devices for emergency purposes. That said, the company also covers a whole array of products, and hence, it can prove to be quite beneficial for Raytheon. The non-GAAP earnings of Motorola declined by 33 percent on yearly basis for the year 2014.

The revenues also fell down by 6 percent. As for the year 2015, the company expects its revenues to stay flat at -2 percent. On the last trading day of February 08, 2015, the company closed its stocks at 1.03 percent and reached $64.66. The stocks gained 6.75 percent when the news of Motorola’s (NYSE:MSI) potential sell out hit the market. The shares hit the figures of $70 in the high hour.

Technological advancements paved way for an easier way of living. Almost everything has been digitized, and breakthroughs in terms of communications has come a very long way as well.

Mobile phones, whether through calls or texts, have made communications a phenomenon, since their development by Motorola (NYSE:MSI) in the early 1970s. While their main clientele originally comprised of metropolitan professionals and business individuals; mobile phones now have gone quite ubiquitous because of their popularity and acceptance. From the executives of big companies to grade-schoolers, they have become everybody’s “need.”

Handheld mobile phones were invented, first and foremost, as an easy means of communicating with others. However, further advances in technology led to possibilities for more features, apart from the basics of making calls and sending text messages. Now, you can play games using it, snap and send photos, take videos, play and store music, connect to the Internet for web surfing, download and use third-party applications, etc. The list goes on!

Because the device has now evolved into a multi-purpose gadget but mainly for entertainment, it cannot be denied that its usage developed a social pandemic as well: people can no longer seem to be able to spend a minute without touching their phones; being away from one’s phone is not an option. Most importantly, the addiction significantly decreased real human-to-human interactions.

While China recently set up a 10 x 164-foot long pavement segment in the Yangrenjie Scenic Spot in Chongqing as a form of toleration of this social disorder, a new Kickstarter project is trying to do the opposite by “curing” it.

The start-up NoPhone has already raised $2,500 for their project: just for $12, one can have a plastic wannabe of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone to aid in the withdrawal stage of their mobile phone addiction.

NoPhone’s Kickstarter page boasts of honest “features” of the “device” such as battery-free, shatterproof, and waterproof. Testimonials about improvements in eye contact skills and of a girl not drunk-texting her boyfriend for a week are found on their page as well.

The team’s goal seems satire, but if one is to think of it, the project probably aims to be the preventive measure of more social issues that can possibly arise due to the lack of normalcy in the way human relationships are being established and fostered in today’s generation and for those to come. While it makes more sense to just either leave your phone on the table or power it off rather than to carry a plastic replica with you, the transition is not going to be easy or smooth.

The NoPhone is to act as surrogate to one’s actual phone. The trick is to fulfill the “need” to have a device constantly held but to not forego possible interactions with the people around you. Even if one constantly looks at it, the NoPhone is a mental note that the actual phone has a message tone and ringer, and you will know if you really need to pick it up and check on it, and if the sound does not go off, you don’t need to do so yet.

The NoPhone Team aims to raise $30,000 until October 11 to propel the project’s development.

It is like the calm that is most probably followed by a storm – which is coming in three months’ time when Apple (NASDAQ:APPL) releases its Apple Watch. Whether you are impressed by this new wearable wonder from Apple (NASDAQ:APPL) or not, you are open to the rival companies and they have three months to make you believe that nothing is worth spending money for, except their smart watch. They have plenty of time to lure you towards their products even before Apple (NASDAQ:APPL) can display theirs’ giving them a significant head start.

Companies like Motorola (NYSE:MSI) are making the best out of this head start with their Motorola (NYSE:MSI) Moto 360 which was announced in March. It is the first watch to come out since the legendary Pebble from Kickstarter which had played a vital role in exciting the people about this newest concept of having a smart device on your wrist. With its conventional round looks it has attracted a lot of technology enthusiasts who are now wondering whether it is as grand as its looks.

Speaking of its design, one might not be wrong to say that Moto 360 has one of the best designs to date. Apple (NASDAQ:APPL) has done an exceptional job with the straps of the watch which might give it a better feel than other watches. However, if we compare the actual design of the watch, the Moto 360 is in the lead with its curved outlook and fastidiously machined aluminum frame; along with its bezel which is super thin. It is one of those rare things that are really smart and really pretty at the same time.

With its slick design it is still going very strong in the market because it is lighter than any of its rivals; android or Apple (NASDAQ:APPL). With a diameter of 46mm, height as less as 11mm and weight of about 49 grams it is leaps and bounds ahead of its rivals in that department.

Speaking of its faults; the one thing that is not as overwhelming as the watch itself is the straps. Customers get to choose between the steel or leather straps. No doubt they both look good but it is a lot work to change them every time you want a change.

Despite its slim looks its working is not as smooth as the Android watches – but to be honest, it is not a deal breaker. The watch sometimes skips a couple of frames of animations but it has more complex and evolved functions. With its GPS and an internal space of 4 GB it moves a little close to Android with its pedometers, ambient light sensor, water resistance quality, heart rate monitor and dual microphones and Qi charging.

The battery of Moto 360 is not as grand as others but it is not as people say it is either. Its working is quite different from other smart watches because instead of the default display remaining off it turns on every time is senses that the user is turning its wrist to look at the watch. The plus side is that the battery last as long as a day despite these features.

As for the price, the watch comes at $249 which is pretty reasonable when you look at the design and features of the watch.

Amidst the high temperature caused by the heat between smartphone rivals, a different category of gadgets has been constantly making the news; smartwatch. Many electronic companies – from Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005930) to the quintessential Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) – have invested in this category of products but somehow those products haven’t been able to strike a chord in the heart of the customers.

It’s an altogether different product in essence from smartphones and companies have been recently experimenting with them but not attaining instant success as they usually get with smartphones.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s own Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE:MSI), which has not quite been the forerunner in the smartphone race, has made a bold step by coming out with a Moto 360 circular smartwatch. The shape of the watch resembles a usual watch. Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE:MSI) have picked up their sales in the past few months and are looking forward for the public reaction to this newly released gadget of theirs. The analysts don’t expect much from the gadget, they don’t see it as a potential threat to the big companies.

Moto 360 comes with a 1.5inch LCD touch screen which is waterproof and laced with Android Wear operating system. The battery is said to last one day. The versions that are in the market in US have leather straps as for the metal ones they’ll follow in a few months time.

Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE:MSI)’s President said that the previous gadgets in the category didn’t live up to the expectations. The products were not appealing enough and it didn’t create a personal bond with consumers as they were expected to make.

One of the main reasons of smart watches failure in the past might be the fact that the customers couldn’t really understand the need for a smartwatch. The previous releases in the category didn’t really bring a good name for smartwatches but Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE:MSI)’s President believes that with Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE:MSI) itself joining the line, the smartwatch war will spice things up, gathering more customers and sales.

Voices have been raised against the build of the watch with the design resembling a flat tyre, according to many analysts. Business Gurus reveal that even the product might turn out to be very good but Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE:MSI) doesn’t possess the brand power it once held. Also the smartwatch category has a very limited scope, despite the fact that big companies have ventured into the area now.

Customers are still waiting for Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) to revive this category, because Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is an enormous brand and it possesses the power to give a product the right thrust in the market and proper advertising to connect it with the public.

Apart from the smartwatch, other products that Motorola Solutions Inc (NYSE:MSI) unveiled are Moto Hint- a blue tooth device and two smartphones. Moto Hint is a blue tooth device which can pick and make calls from about 150ft distance from the cell phone. The talk time is 3 hours between charges. Moto Hit is a device that aims to make blue tooth calls convenient and without any sort of interruption caused by the phone.

According to a latest report released by Reuters, Motorola Solutions Inc. (NYSE:MSI) has seen a decline in its revenues for the second quarter of the current fiscal year. The company, which is a principal manufacturer of radio systems and walkie-talkies, reported that its sales, in the region of North America, dropped drastically. Motorola Solutions Inc. (NYSE:MSI) recently posted its lower than expected revenues for the second quarter. The company’s stocks decreased by 4 percent and came to a 3 month low.

The chief executive of the company, Greg Brown, said that the government spending has decreased due to the budget cuts that it made last year. He further commented that since the local governments and State officials had purchased Motorola commodities in the year 2012, the demand during the first half of the year remained low. The chief executive, however, predicted the demand to go up in the latter part of the year 2014 as the company is expecting to get some big orders from Federal. The company is confident that its revenues will increase during its fourth fiscal quarter.

Motorola Solutions Inc. (NYSE:MSI) sold its enterprise business to Zebra Technologies Corp. (ZBRA). Its enterprise business included the manufacturing and distribution of tablets, mobile computers and barcode scanners. The company, after the sale of its enterprise business, depends on the government spending more than it ever had. The company’s business is now dependent on receiving orders from the security agencies of the government. Government spending alone makes up almost two-third of the company’s total revenues.

The company predicts its sales to further drop by 7 to 9 percent during the third quarter of the year 2014, bringing the total sales to around $1.94 billion. According to a report released by Thomson, market analysts were expecting a revenue growth of 0.3 percent with the revenue figures to be at $2.12 billion.
