eBay Inc. (NASDAQ:EBAY) said the finest known copy of Action Comics #1, a 1938 comic book that introduced Superman to the world, will be sold at auction over an eleven-day period from August 14.

The comic received a 9.0 score from the Certified Guaranty Company, which is the highest grade ever assigned to a copy of Action Comics #1. The comic will be sold by prominent collectibles dealer Darren Adams through eBay’s online marketplace.

After announcing a partnership with Sotheby’s (BID) to sell artworks, antiques and collectibles, eBay’s planned auction of Action Comics #1 represents another attempt by the online auctioneer to leverage its global community of 149 million users and compete directly with other auction houses.

In other news, eBay Vice President Wendy Jones said the company plans to expand in Russia despite mounting sanctions that are being imposed in the country over the Ukraine crisis, Bloomberg and other press outlets reported.

Jones said the company signed an agreement with the Russian Postal Service to speed up cross-border deliveries in Russia as well as in China and that eBay plans to enable Russian vendors to sell goods through the website starting in September. In midday trade, EBAY shares were up 0.4% to $52.25, within a 52-week range of $48.06 to $59.70.
