Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone 6 Is Said To Be Released In Limited Quantities

The supposed date for the release of the iPhone 6 is said to be September 19th, two weeks after the day that Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is scheduled to unveil the latest addition to its iPhone lineup.

The September 19th date is no surprise, given that Apple typically makes its new gadgets available to the public two Fridays after they are announced.

Recent rumors and suggestions say that the larger 5.5 inch model of the iPhone 6 may be released a bit after the 4.7 inch version.

However, according to the most recent rumor from earlier today, it seems that wont be the case. Customers who want the 5.5 inch model will also be available for purchase on September 19th. The rumor, however, did say that the quantities of the larger version could be in short supply.

What gives these rumors more credibility is the fact that multiple parts and even supposed full functioning models of the 4.7 inch version of the iPhone 6 have been leaked online. Considerably fewer leaks have been discovered for the 5.5 inch version of the iPhone 6.

According to the rumored reports, the 4.7 inch model of the iPhone 6 is dubbed model N61, while the larger 5.5 inch sized iPhone 6 is identified by the internal model number N56.

Naming Scheme

As for what the products will be called from a marketing and branding perspective, people familiar with the matter said that the smaller, 4.7 inch iPhone 6 model will carry the traditional iPhone 6 naming scheme, and be called the iPhone 6. The larger 5.5 inch model will allegedly be called the iPhone 6 Plus.

Both versions with be larger in size than the company’s current product, the iPhone 5S, which has a display screen of 4 inches and is now one of the smallest smartphones on the market as the trend has shifted towards bigger screens.

Apple had initially put the 4 inch display screens on their phones in 2012 when they released the iPhone 5. Before that, all models of the iPhone were built with 3.5 inch display screens. This year’s new iPhone upgrade is expected to feature brand new displays at higher resolutions that are both taller and wider than the company’s previous models.

In addition to building in the taller screens, the latest iPhone 6 is also said to undergo a completely new redesign. Just some of the modifications include slightly tapered edges of the glass, round corners, and larger volume buttons. Rumors about the hardware also said that the lock button is now located on the upper right side of the device, making the handset easier for one handed use. The camera on the back of the iPhone is rumored to protrude slightly from the device’s slender profile.

Both the 4.7 inch and the 5.5 inch versions of the iPhone 6 are said to be showcased by Apple at its annual media event on Tuesday tomorrow, beginning at 10 am PST, 1pm EST.
