“Why Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) Spells Your Name Wrong” is a video that went online a while ago and it became viral. About six million views have now been counted for this video in just a few days. Paule Gale stars in the video and shows the reason behind the manual writing on your personalized coffee cup by the company. In this particular video, Gale is the one responsible behind this madness! He starts as a barista and has glee in his persona while purposefully spelling people’s name wrong on their coffee cups.

This is not something to be taken against Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) as the video is made in good humor. Further, the look on Gale’s face just makes it priceless. This video also serves as a reminder to the coffee drinkers that this is the kind of memorable experience when the brain is expecting something totally different and is handed something else.

Every food chain actually prints a random number for the customer on their receipt. Handwritten order-taking might seem out of date for Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) but don’t be fooled. They don’t even take cash when the order is served, this is how technologically advanced they are. They have amazing apps designed especially for their users with which they take all the order payments. So why do they resort to a manual process, to create a personalization which will be memorable in the minds of the consumers!

However, it might be said how they feel the need to write the name of customers on coffee cups because they want to give 100% order accuracy, true this is another reason to make sure nothing is negative in the customer order experience. But there is a funny and laughable use to this technique and that is the multiple use of a single name when spoken and written which creates a one-to-one get to know moment between the barista and customer. This is absolutely humorous and can create a moment of laughter after every order leaving a pleasant taste to the whole trip. A bonus for the company is also how the barista will learn the names of regular customers who frequently visit their shop. This creates a bond between them and the customers feel extremely valued.

Dale Carnegie has presented this principles before which says remembering the name of customers is important because it is the sweetest sound to them in the world. Amy Gesehues says how the positive marketing rates increase by six times with the use of such friendly strategies.

This is the kind of strategy Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) would like to keep practicing. However, their wrong spelling or wrong pronunciation could possibly irritate a few customers but most of them would be laughing at the kind of things the baristas do. This makes the experience more memorable and allows the mind to have a break from a dull ordering routine. For example, if your name is Jessica, expect the barista spelling it purposefully as Gessika or Jesica!
