Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Views Nokia as a Liability

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has released the Lumia 535, a non-Nokia device.  Even though last September, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) spent more than 7 billion dollars to purchase the cell phone company, they now consider the brand name a liability and an embarrassment.

The Lumia 535, although released without a firm price, should be about $150.  Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) goal is to bring a quality smartphone package to people at a reasonable price.

The Lumia 535 features the same 5-megapixel camera as the Lumia 730 and the Lumia 735.  Not only will the Lumia 535 provide you with a selfie app and crystal clear imagery, but the large screen will also offer more background space available during Skype calls.

There is power behind the processor and the storage capability of the Lumia 535.  The five inch display has a 1.2 GHz quad core processor with 1 GB of RAM.  There is 8 GB of memory that comes with the Lumia 535 and 128 GB more storage space can be added by simply sliding in a microSD card if you don’t want to use the 15 GB of free offered on the OneDrive cloud.

According to Jo Harlow, the corporate vice president of the phone division of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), the Lumia 535 and the Lumia 535 Dual SIM will help people do more of what they want to do, for less out of pocket expense.  Harlow continues in saying that innovation should be available to everybody.

According to Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), the benefits of this smartphone include, but not limited to:

  1. Skype video and voice calling with a wider screen.
  2. The pre-installed Office suite will allow you to easily edit, access and share Excel, PowerPoint and Word documents.
  3. It will be run on the Windows Phone 8.1 operation system, which will bring you the latest technology at the best price.
  4. Personal assistance, via Cortana, that will not only anticipate your needs, but also make personalized suggestions.
  5. The built in Microsoft Outlook program will let you easily connect to email wherever you are.
  6. Easily view videos and photos on the five inch qHD output display.
  7. The 5MP wide angle camera allows for clearer selfies and more memorable background to be captured.
  8. 15 GB of free OneDrive cloud storage.

In addition, the Lumia 535 will be available in 6 colors: bright orange, neon green, cyan, grey, white and black.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has said, in the past, that the plan was to use the Nokia name brand for its lower end cell phones and to use the name for its smartphone for a limited time only without committing to how long that limited time would be.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) started off today at 48.85 and at 10:05 am eastern standard time, it is holding at 48.74 per share.  The 52 week range is between 34.63 and 49.15.  The mkt cap is 401.72B and the inst own is 72%.
