Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) Introduces Changes in Its Cabin Experience

206

News has it that Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) will be improving the experience of its cabins this month. What is interesting to note here is the fact that the company made this announcement just weeks after American Airlines announced a similar project. The only difference is that American Airlines will be updating its livery, whereas, Delta Air Lines plans on improving its cabin experience by providing better inflight services. The company plans on introducing these changes latest by 1st March 2015.

The updates will be made in both the premium products as well as the low cost products. Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) will be relaunching its products in premium economy class and business class as Delta Comfort Plus and Delta One respectively. The cabins in first class, premium economy class and business class will get free drinks, new seat covers with quilts and some bin space.

Delta also plans on improving the fares of its basic economy class. This air line will now compete with those carriers that have ultra low fares, and that includes Frontier and Spirit. According to the reports of Cranky Flier, Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) initially planned on competing against the low cost segment; however, the company now looks forward to expanding its fares into other areas of the spectrum too.

These changes reflect Delta Air Lines’ (NYSE:DAL) shift towards the business community and away from the budget travelers. Due to these changes, the class that will suffer the most will be budget travelers, for they will not be able to preselect their seats and upgrades due to the restrictions placed by the company. On the other hand, business class people, who happen to have lots of cash in their pockets, will be finding Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) more appealing than ever.

For the domestic routes, the passengers in the main cabin can select their seats at the time of ticket purchase. Moreover, they will get complimentary products, including snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, in most of these flights. Wi-Fi and inflight studio services will also be made available to these passengers very soon.

As for international flights, the passengers will be able to avail the meal service, and they will also get complimentary wine and beer. What is interesting to note here is the fact that the travelers will get a sleep kit (on demand) with ear plugs and eye shades.

The inflight services in Delta One will include delta studio, noise-reduction handsfree and inflight bedding. The passengers in Delta Comfort will not be getting inflight bedding, but they will be given seat pillows and a complete sleep kit.

Coming to the stock price of Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL), the company, on the last trading day of December 22, 2014, started its stocks at a price of $47.78 and closed at a price of $47.41, after hitting the highest price of $48.68. The company has a total market capitalization of $39.59 billion with a P/E (price to earnings) ratio of 4.12.
