Reading e-books is like a dream thanks to the Voyage, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s newest seventh-generation lightweight Kindle gadget. Not only can you now enjoy a backlit screen with high-resolution of 300 pixels per inch and 39% high-contrast the auto-adjustable brightness gives you the feel of real books and helps eradicate eye-strain. Costing $199 minus 3G, it’s worth the price if you or someone close to you is an avid book reader. If you do want 3G, the Voyage will cost $269 allowing you to download books even without Wi-Fi. Another $20 will eliminate ads that pop-up on the Kindle even when it’s powered on.

The Pros

The Voyage is nicer looking than its predecessor with a magnesium back-cover that blends well with the 0.2 ounces lighter, 7.6 mm thinner glass and weighs 6.4 ounces. It’s easy to use with one hand with an optimized page turning technology which allows you to tap the two side sensor-strips lightly to turn the page which will vibrate slightly. The top sensor will move you forward in the book and the bottom one will help you move backward. You can manually adjust the vibration and how lightly or how hard you want the sensors to react when you tap them. This Kindle by Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) also has micro-etched front glass making it completely glare free.

Another feature that sets it apart is its ability to shift colors to an extent so you feel like you are reading a real book and its automatic adjustment to the surrounding light so it’s easy for you to read even in less light.

The battery gives you six weeks according to Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) and has a 4 GB of memory-equivalent to about 3,000 books-and unlimited Cloud storage so you can store more.

The Cons

Without a case the Voyage’s back gets smudged with finger prints and the screen is less responsive than other tablets or smartphones giving you a little delay between the action and the time you tap on the Kindle’s screen

Using the Voyage

New features include the Family library providing its users free access to family members’ books. The Wise application helps you find easy explanations to hard words while Clips helps you compile and store any book’s important parts so you can refer back to them anytime you want. Other features include the X-ray which is a handy search application so you can easily refer to paragraphs or phrases in your book that indicate specific themes or characters, and Good reads where you can recommend books to our friends or family and see who’s reading what.

Is it worth it?

The Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) Kindle Voyage is definitely a great e-reader-possibly the best. However, Amazon recently launched a $99 sturdy tablet with a host of applications, like the Kindle application, so, you may want to buy that if optimized page turning, high resolution screen, auto-adjustable backlit screen are not too important to you.

And, since Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) claims that its gadgets like the 2012 Paperwhite are long lasting, it’s probably working alright, and truthfully speaking, the Voyage’s features are not so innovative that you would just go out and buy one, especially if your Paperwhite is doing its job.
