Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was able to successfully launch its latest smart phones iPhone 6 and 6 Plus on Sept. 19 in the U.S. and other major countries with record sales of 10 million units in first week. Now the question is which iPhone is preferred by the customers, the normal sized or the larger 6 Plus? It is interesting to know the outcome of latest research that volume of sales between both versions of iPhones has no comparison. Research has proved that people prefer conventional sized smart phone depending upon various factors.
Price plays an important part in smart phone selection and can be one of the many causes for this disproportion. Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 6 has a price starting from $199 to the highest figure of $399 for the 128 GB version. On the other hand, price of iPhone 6 Plus ranges from $299 for the basic to $499 for its top model. Majority of the customers who are purchasing smart phones prefer traditional size screen as the one offered by iPhone 6 which is 4.7 inches. For them 5.5 inch screen size of iPhone 6 Plus is awkward to handle. However, Apple is more focused on achieving sales targets rather than thinking about the size.
AppLovin has conducted a latest research and released the data that the average worldwide utilization ratio between iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is 80:20 respectively. With insignificant differences between iPhone 6 and 6 Plus on their network, it is believed that only one iPhone 6 Plus is sold among every five iPhones. However, there are certain regions in the world where the trend is somewhat inconsistent from the global average. Getting into details, one can point out fascinating trends in usage preferences globally.
According to the data, in APAC countries popularity of larger sized Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 6 Plus is higher. Whereas, the average sell out ratio of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in North America, Australia and Western Europe closely corresponds to the global average. Customers in APAC countries are purchasing iPhone 6 Plus in higher quantities. This zone has the unique distinction of selling phablets equal to the total numbers of laptops and tablets. So here in APAC countries, iPhone 6 Plus utilization is at least 35 percent more than iPhone 6. If we consider Philippines this difference is quite significant since 37 percent of its people have purchased iPhone 6 Plus, whereas, 36 percent population in Japan and Vietnam uses iPhone 6 Plus.
As far as Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is concerned, these percentages and averages do not matter much because hardly any person outside the company has any clue about the margins on any of the iPhone model. Apple is more interested in achieving the sales target of 50 million for both models in the fourth quarter so that it is able to regain its high growth legacy especially the one achieved under Steve Job. Moreover, Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) share price which is already all time high will touch the sky.
