Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Plans For The Touch ID Biometric Sensor

0

Currently, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has the Touch ID Biometric sensor installed in the home button; however, chances are that this feature will not be continued in the future. Although it is a unique feature by Apple (NASDAQAAPL), the company wants to switch the finger ID sensor with the touch screen. A touch screen feature is almost similar to the mechanism that is supported by the Samsung Group.

Samsung devices already feature the technology of swiping the finger on the screen in order to unlock it. The office of U.S patent and trademark released an application which was submitted last year by Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) that featured the details of the new technology of touch ID sensors that the company was looking to incorporate in its future devices.

Introducing the touch ID to the screen will make unlocking of the phones more convenient and will also enable more possibilities for securing the device. It is being speculated that the new sensor will have the ability to recognise four finger prints at the same time. This means that you can put up to four fingers on a specific spot on the device’s screen in order to unlock it. However, if that seems a bit complicated then you can still use just one finger print as well.

Currently, the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) devices have the sensor on its home button which makes the bottom of the device quite thick. Moving the touch id sensor feature to the screen will also reduce the size of the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) products. Although the new feature seems to be attractive and new features always have some excitement for the customers, switching the senor to the screen might not be as appealing to use as it sounds.

The move will affect the image quality of the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) products, be it a phone or iPad. Moreover, it cannot be guaranteed that the screen sensor will always be able to recognise the finger prints accurately as the sensor feature did on the home button of the device. Another drawback of the change is that the unlocking of the device will not be as smooth as before.

With the sensor ID screen, one would first have to wake the phone up and then place the fingers accurately on the appointed spots in order to unlock the screen. Previously all you had to do was to place a finger on the home button of the device to unlock it. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) got hold of Authen Tec in the year 2012 prior to its introduction of the touch ID feature in the iPhone 5s.

Touch ID is now an important part of the iOS as well as Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) mobile payment app. Apple Pay is gaining momentum and it is understandable that the company would want to improve its security measures for the sake of its growing market. It does not seem likely for iPhone 6s to have the touch ID screen sensor featured in it, but the future devices from Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) will definitely support it.
