Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW)’s shares have been going up ever since it shook hands with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). Many analysts out there thought that it will be a suicide for Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW), just like it was for GT Advanced Technologies (NASDAQOTH:GTATQ). But unlike GT Advanced Technologies (NASDAQOTH:GTATQ), Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) is doing pretty well and is quite happy with everything. There haven’t been any complaints whatsoever. Also Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) is smarter than GT Advanced Technologies (NASDAQOTH:GTATQ) as it realizes that Sapphire isn’t really suitable for the screen of smartphones and isn’t as reliable as Gorilla Glass. Sapphire also comes in at an expensive price. So Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) has decided to drop sapphire altogether and introduce something new, very much alike Gorilla Glass but more efficient and reliable.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone will be the first phone to gain the privileges of Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW)’s new project. Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) thinks that Sapphire even though is considered good all around the market, it’s pretty expensive and not that efficient as compared to the Gorilla Glass. So the company has decided that it will evolve Gorilla Glass rather than work upon Sapphire. Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) has learnt from the mistakes made by GT Advanced Technologies (NASDAQOTH:GTATQ). GT Advanced Technologies (NASDAQOTH:GTATQ) succumbed to the large consignments of Sapphire and was eventually forced to file in the court of bankruptcy and things fell out badly between Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and GT Advanced Technologies (NASDAQOTH:GTATQ). Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) doesn’t want a repetition of that and neither does Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).
The project will release later this year and will reportedly eclipse every glass on the market that is used for making screens. This new rendition of Gorilla glass is being dubbed Project Phire. Project Phire will have superior efficiency and resistance against drop damage. The screen won’t be as scratch proof as Sapphire but it will do pretty good considering the fact that Gorilla Glass is widely used and is popular to this day, and mind you, Project Phire will be way better than Gorilla Glass; even if it’s a rendition of it.
iPhone 6, which featured the Sapphire glass, cracked when dropped several times, so the resistance against drop damage was zero and for that customers were very concerned, for they were paying too much for the phone and most of the money was charged courtesy to the expensive Sapphire glass. Now, Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) has decided to plunge Sapphire into a world of oblivion and bring a highly improved version of the Gorilla Glass which won’t be even half as expensive as the Sapphire but certainly better in quality.
The iPhone romantics should rejoice because now you won’t have to be concerned about your phone’s screen being shattered when you accidently drop it. However, it doesn’t mean you do it deliberately and use the phone harshly. An iPhone is still an iPhone and glass is still glass and not metal. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) can sigh now and work upon other things rather than being concerned about the screen problems.
