Facebook- WhatsApp Deal: Privacy Concerns Of Users Causing Hinders

Last month, WhatsApp is acquired by Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) for $19 billion. But the deal is not closed yet as various regulatory bodies around the world still has to give permission to close the deal. But the process is facing hinders as some organisations have raised privacy issues regarding how Facebook will use Whatsapp data.

On Reddit, a user has given a link to the Android section of website with title ‘3 WhatsApp alternatives that respect your privacy’ just after three days when social networking site unveiled its plan of acquiring WhatsApp.

Around 68% of readers liked the link as 99 points have gotten by link. The link also highlighted that when it comes to handling private and close information in chats, some WhatsApp users are concerned about their privacy and don’t have reliance on Facebook in this regard.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is asked by a US-based privacy group to re-examine, this deal on March 6 and ban it if required in order to protect the privacy of over 450 million users of WhatsApp. The organization would carefully examine the agreement, according to a Competition Commission of India that official reported on March 9.

The Reddit user submitted a link of a Telegram in one of the substitutes cited in the article. Telegram is a standard IM app in terms of functionality that is comparable to WhatsApp but privacy is its main feature that gives it an edge over Whatsapp.

So, the number of users installing Telegram considerably increased after the WhatsApp-Facebook deal at once. Today for Telegram, about 4.95 million people signed up. The company tweeted on February 23, in 48 countries; Telegram is the most downloaded iPhone app with around 100 new users per second.

According to Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), Whatsapp users will be vulnerable to privacy concerns as all the data that can be possibly collected will be gathered by the social networking site from its users.
