Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will soon be launching an application for text-messaging and they will call it “Messenger”. The new application will be launched with the new version of the Android Mobile Operating System, Android 5.0, Lollipop. Since “Messenger” is also the name of Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB)’s current messaging application, so this will create a confusion. People at Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) are not at all happy about this.
Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB)’s Messenger is a juggernaut all in all. According to App Annie, this application is the number one on app store charts. There are already 200 million users of Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB)’s Messenger. This number is likely to increase soon; according to a new policy introduced by Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB), all the mobile users are required to use the messenger instead of sending messages through their Facebook Accounts directly. Besides this, the messenger is a really good application that is bound to attract a lot of new people.
“Messenger” is not the only messaging application of Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB). The company owns another messaging application that is known as “Whatsapp”. This mobile app has over 600 million users and is very popular. Whatsapp ranks third on the app store charts.
The confusion continues to increase because the new Messenger app is not the sole messaging app of Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL), which has another app for Android users which is called the Google Hangout. For Android users, this is one of the best things. The app synchronizes the chat messages from your Gmail account with your phone. Hangouts is a great application with many wonderful features.
So Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) already has a messaging app and is planning to launch a new one. But, the company still wants people to stick to the messaging platform provided by SMS/MMS services. Both apps, Messenger and Hangouts, have different features and advantages. Hangouts allows communication over different platforms and mediums. Whereas, Messenger allows users to quickly, and easily ,receives messages from SMS and MMS platforms. Nexus 6 will have in it Android Lollipop, Messenger and Hangouts.
It was revealed that “Messenger” was once called “Messaging”. The good news is that the company will now provideifferent choices to Android users. However, the confusion will persist because the names of the messaging apps from Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) and Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) are same. It will be better if both apps are easy to distinguish.
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will soon release its Nexus 6, the latest Android phone that will be manufactured by Motorolla. The phone will be launched in the holiday season. The launch of the phone coincides with the launch of Android 5.0 version. Nexus 6 will have installed in it Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger so that users can use whichever app they are most comfortable with.
The new app will probably be greeted with enthusiastic Android users, as well as the messenger and the new Android version. But, it cannot be said if Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s messenger will outshine Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB).
