The European Court of Justice has asked Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) to erase the data which is dubious, malicious and damages someone’s reputation. This came after more than 90,000 people through European Court of Justice asked Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) to take down data which was harmful to their reputation.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL), for now has opposed the ruling and has stated that there is a fine line between ruining a reputation and the right of the public to be informed. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) also stated that the company is not known for tarnishing someone’s reputation; it is the largest search engine in the market and it takes pride in its status. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is the leading search engine for people to access information about almost anything in the world.

The debate has given birth to two juries: The PR departments that deal with handling the reputation of their customers and freedom of speech campaigners. While the PR department has made a lot of money by catering to people who want to clear data, which stains their reputation, from Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL); whereas pro-freedom of speech people are backing up Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) to hold its ground.

A Leeds based company, Ignyte, which is a self proclaimed expert in removing negative data from Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) for their customers said that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) doesn’t realize that there are disgruntled employees or blackmailers out there who can just make a website and ruin your reputation in a day. It also said that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has absolutely no idea which of the material is genuine or fake.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) in the past has accused such PR companies of being greedy saying that they only care about their business. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) also claimed that deleting the data brings a bad name to its credibility.

The CEO of Ignyte in reply to this allegation said that the boom in the business is because of the awareness people have gained after this ruling. He said that following this ruling he gets clients almost every day requesting him to erase content regarding them on Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL). He further claimed that at the end of the day it was blackmail; people such as ex partners, employees or bosses can post anything against you and it can go viral and from there everyone can have access to that information. People must be given a choice to protect their image.
