Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has taken over one of the most important billboards locations in the US. The giant tech’s ads are going to be advertised on a massive billboard located on New York’s Time Square. The screen that runs the length of a football field, extending from 45th to 56th street alongside Broadway, is eight stories tall. Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is going to be the first ever company to advertise on the screen, come Nov. 25.
This is going to be a very integral spot for any company to advertise considering its central position. The Times Square is a very popular spot and attracts huge volumes of visitors. Hence, which ever company invests in advertising in such spots is bound to target public of various age groups.
According to latest reports, an approx. 360,000 people visit Times Square every day, which totals up to 131 million visitors in a year. It is the most visited place and hosts more visitors than Disney (NYSE:DIS) landmarks. In addition to this, each major event or annual celebrations take place in Times Square that has given it a very integral value, giving it a cult status in the US history. This screen will prove to be a very significant advertisement platform, based on these observations.
It is not just a billboard that advertises a company’s services or its latest features, it has plenty to offer. This screen is interactive and will let onlookers use Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Androidify app on Android or iOS to create their own characters to play with on the screen. This is bound to draw more interest in the screen, as this is first of its kind interactive feature displayed on such a big scale. This attraction will be available with effect, from Monday afternoon through Tuesday. Not only does this feature attract passers-by to the screen, it also initiates user interest in Android serviced apps. It is expected that makers will be looking in to adding more interactive features to keep their audience engaged.
According to news, Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) plans to use the space to advertise its most popular products. These will include the latest Nexus handsets and tablets, in addition to Maps, Chrome and wearable Android devices. The tech giant has just scored a spot that will make it easier to advertise any new product that it launches in the market. Also, it can advertise special offers, discounts and future plans and expect to get maximum audience with least amount of effort.
The tech company will also let six volunteer organizations to feature on the screen. This will be termed as a gift media space that comes free of cost. These include Charity Water, Khan Academy, WWF, Donors Choose and Give Directly, NRDC. Another non-profit organization expected to feature on the screen is Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s own Made with Code.
The advertisement costs for the screen billboard is not known. However, its central location, which is right above the Marriott Hotel points to the steep charges for using it as an advertisement space.
