Honda (NYSE:HMC) Planning a Game Changer

When it comes to selling family cars, one of the biggest factors to be taken into consideration is safety features. Honda (NYSE:HMC) CR-V is using this approach with its latest 2015 launch. These new safety features are only present in electric cars. Honda (NYSE:HMC) CR-V has high hopes with sales and profits with these additional feature on board.

The 2015 CR-V comes packed with what is known as Honda (NYSE:HMC) Sensing, a combination of six technologies aligned together to give Honda (NYSE:HMC) CR-V its competitive edge.

Three of the six features are already installed in many vehicles. These include the cruise control, lane departure sound and forward collision warning. Cruise control attempts at keeping a certain distance between the vehicles up front, regardless of one’s own speed. Lane departure warning comes into play when the car gets out of its lane. Lastly the forward collision warning is set to warn an inattentive driver of a potential crash.

The other three features include:

-          LaneWatch :  For drivers’ assistance, the car’s blind spot is put in view on a video screen. This way the drivers aren’t only dependent on right side view mirror to make a lane change. This feature has proven very successful on the Accord sedan and other Honda (NYSE:HMC) cars. It ensures for safe and confident lane changes.

-          Lane Keeping Assist System: This is a handy feature on long drives as it helps steer the car back into its lane in case it accidently goes out. LKAS (the shorter version) is the first step into the invention of driver less cars. At this point, the system only works for 15 seconds before the driver has to take over control. The feature not only helps keep the driver in lane but also gives him a rest time of 15 seconds.

-          Collision Mitigation Braking System: These are like automatic brakes that work with the active cruise control. If the car senses another vehicle or a person on its path, it comes to a complete halt.

At this point, the Honda (NYSE:HMC) Sensing Package is found only on the new, most expensive version of the CR-V named the Touring model. But it will not be long when these features will be introduced in other models.

According to various sources, Honda (NYSE:HMC)’s long term goals are completely focused on safety, which is quite helpful in boosting sales. The company is aiming to reduce fatalities by half in 2020. Furthermore, by 2030, the company is targeting accident free driving experiences. Honda (NYSE:HMC) believes these additional elements can be a real game changer for them in times of tough competition.

Women, young families and customers who list safety as a top priority are the potential target market. But the CR-V is not just a safe car; it’s a complete package of safety, comfort, elegance and speed.

Jeff Conard, the senior vice president of Honda (NYSE:HMC) division in the USA expects that the new design will be bought for its top value. The new CR-V goes on sale on October 1, 2014.
