Xbox and GoPro

In wake of its impending quarterly earnings report, GoPro has also showcased its partnership with Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT)’s Xbox. The camera company released four videos to the Xbox user community to commemorate the debut of its newest GoPro channel for the Xbox One.

The Xbox One is a gaming and entertainment system. GoPro’s latest channel is an app that provides entertainment and ecommerce and allows members and users of Xbox Live all over the world to stream content from GoPro on demand, share videos, and buy cameras and accessories from GoPro.

The channel increases GoPro’s presence to the Xbox community, which has bee able to view GoPro content on the Xbox ever since the app was first released in April earlier this year. The creation of a GoPro channel shows that the community is becoming increasingly interested in GoPro content. There were nearly 500,000 downloads of the app worldwide, and the average viewing session of GoPro content is just under 18 minutes. If you narrow the metrics down to just the United States, that figure is even higher – Xbox users in the United States view the company’s video content for nearly 30 minutes each session. That is longer than the typical television sitcom.

The app was demonstrated in front of thousands at Comic-Con International last week in San Diego. Attendees at the Xbox Lounge were able to watch trailer clips of video content that was exclusive to the event, view videos created by GoPro and users, and discover the company’s devices’ new share and favorite features.

GoPro’s relationship with Microsoft will allow it to expand its distribution of its content and broaden its reach in the community beyond current brand platforms, which include social media and GoPro.com.

GoPro launched a similar venture in October of 2013, when it integrated a GoPro channel on Virgin America’s in flight entertainment options. Additional partnerships are expected for the year to come.
