Lead-times of Older Models Vs. Lead-times of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Latest iPhone 6

The lead-times of a product can give an idea about the demand and supply match of the product. By following the lead-times of different models of the iPhone, one can get an indication that which model is most popular and what is the average selling price of the phone.

Following its five weeks of launch the iPhone 6 has lead-times of 7-10 business days according to the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s website.  This is true for all iPhone 6 markets except the Hong Kong. In the last week, the lead times have shown changes as follows:

  • The 6 and 6 Plus models in Taiwan changed to 7-10 business days from 2-3 weeks
  • The lead-time for the Space Gray 64GB iPhone decreased to 7-10 business days
  • In Singapore, the information was first reported as not available and then 7-10 business days

The lead-times for iPhone 6 Plus arrived and settled at 3-4 weeks in the past couple of weeks. Over the same time-frame, the iPhone 6 Plus in Singapore went up to 3-4 weeks while the 128GB and 16GB models in China increased from 2-3 weeks to 3-4 weeks.

If you compare these values to those of iPhone 5 models, then you will see that after 5 weeks of launch, iPhone 5s’ lead-time was 2-3 weeks while that of iPhone 5 was 3-4 weeks. The lead-times of iPhone 5 decreased to 1-2 weeks after 7 weeks of launch. As for the model 4S, after five weeks since its launch, the lead-time had become 1-2 weeks.

This is the information that was gathered from the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s website. Let’s look at the websites of Verizon (NASDAQ:VZ), AT&T (NASDAQ:T) and Sprint (NASDAQ:S).

  • According to the information gathered from Verizon (NASDAQ:VZ)’s website, the 64 GB models of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus tend to have longer lead-times.
  •  According to the AT&T(NASDAQ:T) website, the 64GB models of iPhone 6 showed longest lead-times. As for the iPhone 6 Plus models, their lead-times were 28-35 days ever since they were launched in the market.
  • Finally, Sprint (NASDAQ:S)’s website gives information that the lead-times of 16GB and 128GB models of iPhone 6 are 2-5 business days. The 64GB models had longer lead-times of 2-4 weeks. As for the iPhone 6 Plus, all models of 64GB and 128GB have lead-times around 2-5 days or 1-2 weeks.

The configurations of the iPhone 6 Plus are relatively more expensive than those of other iPhone models. The configuration settings of other models are $100 cheaper than iPhone 6’s. Whereas the memory upgrade of 64GB is worth $100 which is cheaper than the previous $200 upgrading costs. This means that more customers can now upgrade. In the third quarter, the average selling price of the iPhone was $603. Analysts at the Wall Street had estimated a price of $580. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and the suppliers of the company are increasing production. The ASP for the iPhone in December will increase.
