Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) all set to improve its network

Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) has planned to increase its LTE network, and for this purpose, the company is going to add 20,000 more sites as well as adapt the current sites which could be used for different purposes. These plans by Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) are a lot more ambitious than ones reported by S4GRU. According the latter website, Sprint Corp (NYSE:S)will add only 9,000 new sites.

However, even the news of 20,000 additions is not official as it is only an anonymous source known to work closely with the company has leaked this information. Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) has not yet decided on any final figure.

Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) recently underwent through a Network Vision modernization, and in this process, the company went through up-gradation of 38,000 of its existing sites. This was done by installing more multi-mode base stations. 10,000 sites were added to the network of Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) when it acquired ClearwireCorp. (NASDAQ:CLWR) in 2013. It is rumored that Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) will be retaining these towers, and 20,000 more sites will be in addition to these towers. From these 10,000 towers, TD-LTE is supported by 7,000, though no CDMA supported service. The new plans of the company include the addition of CDMA services to some of these sites.

Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) is very enthusiastic about this expansion as the company has been having some problems in its network for a long time now. As per result from Root Metrics Inc. which is a firm which tests network, the overall performance of the network of Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) has improved. This allowed the company to stand at the third position in the overall network industry. However, it must also be noted that Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) stood last in the test of network speed. The company is expecting that with the new upgraded network, it will be able to add more customers to its profile.

This new project from Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) is predicted to add both dual as well as tri band sites. As per Fierce Wireless, one reason behind this is that the company does not intend to deploy some of the 2.5 GHz antennas too few of the rural areas. The company is expected to increase its network strength through using small cells S well as macro cells.

CEO of Sprint Corp (NYSE:S), Marcelo Claure has stated that the company intends to make investments in its infrastructure as well as spectrum, which include 2.5 GHz, 1900 MHz as well as 800 MHz.TheCEO has further stated that the project will include increasing the network by adding sites across all spectrums, which will include both macro and small cells.

Although Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) has some huge and promising plans to make its network better, actually carrying out these plans will not be a very easy. While network improvement may be high on the priority list of Sprint Corp (NYSE:S), the company should focus on network acceleration, keeping in mind that its rivals, Verizon as well as AT&T have greater network coverage.
