Tesla Motors Corp (NASDAQ: TSLA) opens its first Canadian super-charging station in Squamish

California-based Tesla Motors has launched Canada’s first supercharging station in Squamish. The charging station is located along the Sea-to-Sky Highway, which connects Vancouver to Whistler.

Tesla Motors said in a statement that the loading station in Squamish is an “integral part of the corridor on the west coast of the company that will allow owners of the Model S free travel between San Diego, California Tesla, and Whistler in British Columbia.” The Squamish charging station is the first of many that the American electric car company plans to open in British Columbia.squamish16

Before the opening of the Canadian super-station, the closest was in Seattle, Washington. This station allowed the car to charge enough to cover the distance between Seattle and Vancouver, but not much beyond that. Thanks to the new station, the owners of these electric cars can recharge their cars at Squamish to get to Whistler.

Super-charging stations, which were designed to allow electric cars to travel from one city to another on the highway, take 20-30 minutes to charge half of the electric car battery of the Tesla Model S.

Tesla Motors said that the Squamish station is the first of a long series of stations it plans to open soon in the area. The supercharger station is a key component in Tesla’s West Coast plan, which would enable Model S drivers to move between San Diego, California to Whistler, British Columbia, for free.

The Tesla Model S electric car has a range of around 425 km, depending on the manufacturer. In 2013, the independent magazine Consumer Reports called the S model nothing less than the best car ever tested, boasting that it combined luxury and sporty driving. The Tesla Model S currently retails for about $ 100,000 in the United States.

The super charging station at Squamish opened on Thursday, July 17th. The location is 40167 Glendaler Place in Squamish, BC. The station is in the Garibaldi Village Shopping Center, right next to Boston Pizza.
