Will Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) launch its Surface Mini this year?

15

News has it that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is about to launch its new Surface Mini. The company is expected to release the tablet in this month, to be more precise.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has neither admitted to the news nor denied it, but then again, it is the company’s practice to create a little bit suspense before its every launch. Where it is expected to launch Windows 10 OS this year, Surface Pro 4 will be released next year to accompany OS.

It is important to mention here that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) released its Surface Pro 3 in the month of May, 2014, and even at that time, sources were of the opinion that the company was in a process of finishing the works on one of its mini tablets. Microsoft launched Surface Pro 3 in its event in the New York City in May. The company avoided to comment on the progress or release of Surface Mini. After many silent months, media has finally picked up on the reports of a Surface tablet about to be launched.

The first report about this tablet was published by a Chinese UDN, which was cited in the reports of GforGame. Information could not be gathered on the specifications or features of the device, however, the launch will happen in the last month of the year 2014.

UDN based its opinion on the revenue figures that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) posted for its most recent quarters. The figures are on a rise since last year, when the Surface tablet was arrived in the market. Reports from The Verge show that the company’s total revenues from the segment of tablets were recorded to be around $400 million in the year 2013. However, the figures have spiked up to almost $908 million in a matter of a year. This rise in the revenues came from the Surface Pro 3contributions. The tablet is becoming popular for its remarkable design and incredible specifications.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has kept the media in a dark regarding the features of Surface Mini. The only available information on the matter is that the tablet would either feature a display of 10.1 inch or 8 inch. Moreover, this will be the first gadget that would run on Windows 10 OS. If Microsoft releases its Surface Mini in the month of December, the sales would commence next year, mid 2015 to be more precise, which means that the company will have parallel sales going for Windows 10 consumer release as well.

It is still not clear as to why the company is trying to delay the launch of its mini Surface. Initially, Surface Mini was scheduled to be launched together with Surface Pro 3 in the month of July 2014. Sources are of the opinion that perhaps Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) wanted to focus on its Surface Pro 3’s marketing at that point in time. But now that the sales of Surface Pro 3 have gone up, the company can safely launch its mini tablet.
