Is BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) Back With a Bang?

294

Before the launch of Androids and iPhones, BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) was known for its sophistication, class and style. But ever since these Smartphones have come into play, BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) consumers seem to have moved on. After years of struggling to compete and stay in the market, BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) now believes it has finally made its mark by introducing what is known as the new BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) Passport smartphone.

A fraction of a doubt still stays in our mind if BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) will ever regain what it lost. Even though the passport introduces a fresh look and design along with an inventive hardware but its camera and software are of mediocre quality. In terms of pricing, it is much cheaper than the latest iPhone being for $599 in the US without a contract. It seems that BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) is heading back to its originality of business by setting target consumers as “power professionals”.

As we examine the BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) closely, we see that the reason it is named Passport is because it has the identical size and shape of an actual passport, adorned by stainless steel and a solid built. The device screen is of 4.5 inches but is 30% wider than any iPhone. This is of an advantage if one is reading documents online or viewing spreadsheets as it was made keeping in mind the targeted professionals.

The keyboard this time around is a combination of the previous Qwerty style keyboard with a few additional new features hence making it easier to use. The device also has excellent battery life along with a 32GB storage and slot for extra storage. Another very interesting feature BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) introduced this year in response to Google Now, Windows Phone’s Cortana and Apple’s Siri is the BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) Assistant. Users found it helpful when it came to replying texts by voice or when one needs to execute a particular task with assistance. But it’s said it lacked personality when compared to the others.

The phone camera is not only slow at processing but the video quality isnt sharp as well.

Another disappointing element was that the play-pause button didn’t work with music apps like Spotify or Slacker. The applications seem to be a combination of BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) and Android but there are two app stores available. One that is the exclusive BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) World and the other is the Amazon app store. Both stores seems to overlap on certain applications.

Voice Quality for phone calls and speaker phone calls is excellent as the speakers are phenomenal when it comes to playing music.

In order to make its mark in the race against iPhone and Android, BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) has played half its cards right. The keyboard, the design, the security will all be well received by the end users. But when it comes to software, maybe a more user friendly one should have been considered and a much better camera is very much required in the next version of the passport.
