Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) shares were downgraded to neutral from buy on Tuesday by Goldman Sachs, with a price target of $83.

Goldman said the retail giant’s spending isn’t expected to improve short-term, pointing to the company’s focus on growth over shareholder returns. WMT shares were little changed in morning trading.

Costco Wholesale Corporation (NASDAQ:COST) shares gained more than 1% after Goldman Sach raised its rating on the stock to Buy from Neutral and adds it to the Conviction list. Goldman also raised is price target on the discount retailer, to $136 from $127 per share.

Goldman analysts said in a note they expect reacceleration in earnings growth off recent depressed levels to
drive a re-rating back toward historical averages. In late morning trade, COST was up 1.42% to $118.78.

Dollar Tree, Inc. (NASDAQ:DLTR) shares were down 1% in recent trade as BMO Capital lowered its rating on the discount variety retailer to market perform from outperform in the wake of its agreement to acquire Family Dollar (FDO) for $9.2 billion.

BMO said it has lowered its GAAP FY2014 and FY2105 EPS estimates to reflect the elimination of share buybacks caused by the transaction.

DLTR is trading in the lower half of the 52-week range between $49.59 and $60.19. FDO was higher 0.3% at $75.94, near the 52-week high of $76.82. The 52-week low is at $55.64.
