Sequenom, Inc. (NASDAQ:SQNM) shares gained more than 3% after the company said it would launch its VisibiliT lab test in international markets by the end of 2014 to measure pregnancy risk.

The VisibiliT test incorporates maternal age, fetal fraction and the relative amount of chromosomal material for chromosomes 21 and 18 to generate a highly accurate, personalized risk score.

The test is for pregnant women who want information about Down syndrome and Edwards syndrome, have a single gestation pregnancy, and whose pregnancies are considered to be at average risk. The test can also report fetal gender. In mid-day trade, SQNM was up 3.29% to $3.78.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:TEVA) has completed the acquisition of Labrys, a move that brings to Teva LBR-101, a fully humanized monoclonal antibody that binds to calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), which is currently in Phase IIb clinical trials for prevention of chronic and episodic migraine.

Teva’s acquisition of LBR-101 follows the company’s recent acquisition of ZECUITY, an iontophoretic patch which delivers sumatriptan via the skin for the acute treatment of migraine. Shares in Teva were trading 0.62% lower at $54.38 shortly before midday on Monday. Over the past 52 weeks, the company has seen a share price high of $55.24 and a low of $36.26.

Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:AVNR) said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has accepted its application for a phase II study to assess the safety and efficacy of AVP-786 to treat major depressive disorder.

The company said it plans to start the study in Q3, noting this application is the first step in its plans to develop the drug for “a broad array of neurological and psychiatric conditions.” AVNR was flat at $5.39 in recent trading shortly after the open. That is near the higher end of its 52-week range between $2.62 and $6.00.
