With Christmas just around the corner, the holiday season is hitting off. While some companies are taking advantage of the season by offering their latest products, others are selling products are cheaper prices. One such company is Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) which is offering the latest Windows for the current year. Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) unveiled its latest operating system, Windows 10 in California on Tuesday. Their spokesperson claims that Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) spent the last two years, since the launch of Windows 8 back in October 2012, handling feedback on the new layout that met with mixed reactions. In their attempt to address this issue, they built a product that would satisfy all customer requirements, as it was derived from their feedback. A live demo of the early Windows 10 version was shown at the launch ceremony. Joe Belfiore, the corporate VP of operating systems and the spokesperson for Windows as well as Windows phone design and development, stated that Windows 7 users were driving the first generation Prius and now with Windows 10 we are offering them a Tesla.
On the other hand, the PC makers are offering cheaper window devices. Toshiba (TYO:6588) and Acer (TPE:2353) have both launched new windows tablet this month priced at just $150. HP (NYSE:HPQ), not lagging behind also launched the 7 inch stream and 8 inch stream tablets.
HP (NYSE:HPQ)’s new Windows 8.1 comes packed with a year’s subscription to Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) services, which include MS Office, 60 minutes Skype call time and 1TB storage on company drive. Windows will be run on quad-core Intel processors with 32GB storage space and an option of additional 32GB via micro SD card. In addition, it also offers Mobile’s 4G LTE network support that offers 200 MB free internet with no contract data for as long as the device lasts.
What makes this deal even more attractive is the price. It is expected that Stream 7 will cost $99.99 and Stream 8 will cost $149.99. The products will be available for sale in stores by November this year.
Keeping in mind the low price strategy, HP (NYSE:HPQ) also plans to introduce two Stream laptops. An 11.6 inch Stream 11 and a 13.3 inch Stream 13 are likely to hit the market soon. Even though both are non-touch HD displays but Stream 13 can be upgraded to the touch version. Other features include, Intel processors, 32 GB storage with the option of adding additional, a year of Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) office 365 as well as 1 TB of OneDrive storage. Stream 11 is predicted to be set at a cost of $199.99 whereas the Stream 13 will cost $299.99. Both are expected to hit stores in November.
A research conducted by NPD Group suggests that Window devices at lower price, is Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s strategy as we enter the holiday season. Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) aims at competing against Google (NASDAQ : GOOGL)’s Chromebooks, which seemed to have gained popularity during the back to school shopping season in 2014.
