Ford (NYSE:F) India Private Limited recalls its cars in India

The Ford India Private Limited called back its Fiesta cars due to a glow plug control module problem. Ford has recalled 3,072 Fiesta cars to resolve this problem but only its models that date from October 2010 to December 2011. The car owners will be contacted directly by the company and a new glow plug will be fitted free of cost which will have a new design and will be waterproof. Before this, Ford India Private Limited had to recall some of its vehicles to replace the same glow plug control module.

The previous year, Ford India Private Limited recalled its Ford Ecospor Diesel a hundred and sixty thousand units of Ford Figo and Classic. This trend of recalling vehicles and making adjustments in it has been going on in India for a while. In November the maker of SUV, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (NSE:M&M) recalled two thousand and three hundred units of its famous SUVs Scorpio, XUV500 and its multipurpose vehicle Xylo to resolve a problem within the vacuum pumps of its engines.

119 units of Sedan camry, a product of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited was recalled back because of a flawed front suspension. A luxury car specialized firm Audi AG (FRA:NSU) recalled 6758 A4 Sedans to update its software unit for the air bag control. In October it was Honda Motor Co Ltd (TYO:7267) which recalled more than 1075 units of its sports effective CR V, hatchback Brio and its small but efficient Sedan Amaze to fix problems with its faulty airbags.

Along with Honda, Nissan Motor Co Ltd (TYO:7201) also recalled 9000 units of Micra and Sunny which were manufactured between 2008 and 2012 and were recalled due to the faulty air bag. In July Honda Motor Co Ltd (TYO:7267)  recalled 252 units of CR V and more than 1000 units of Honda Accord, again due to a problem with its airbags. During this time period Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (NSE:M&M)  recalled 23,519 Iconic Scorpio throughout the country due to its defective pressure regulating valves.

In May it was Hyundai Motor Co (KRX:005380) India that recalled 2347 units of its Santa FE SUV countrywide to fix its stop lamp switch. India’s biggest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (NSE:MARUTI) called back 1,03,311 units of Swift, Dzire and Ertiga in April and this was done to fix  the problem with the vehicles’ fuel filler neck. To be more specific Hyundai recalled 42,481 sedan Dzire, 47,237 Hatchback Swift and 13,593 Ertiga. These vehicles were manufactured between November 2013 and February 2014.

Toyota India also recalled 45000 units of its MPV (Innova) because it had a problem with its steering column. Although even after all these recalls, the biggest recalls in India in terms of the number of cars was done by General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) where it recalled a hundred and fourteen thousand units of its Chevrolet Tavera which were manufactured between 2005 and 2013 and were recalled last year in July. The problem with this vehicle was related to emissions and its specifications.
