According to the latest media reports, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will release its iPhone 6 on September 9, 2014. The new iPhone is expected to come in two different varieties, featuring a larger screen. This feature of the new phone poses a threat to Samsung Co.’s (SSNLF) Galaxy handsets, since one of the differentiating and most popular features of these Galaxy tabs was there larger screens.
Sources have it that Samsung plans to compete with iPhone 6 with two of its news phones. According to the sources, Samsung will release its Galaxy Note 4 on September 3, literally days before the launch of iPhone 6. Although the company itself has not commented on the news, but it did announce the launch of a new, larger screen phone on its most recent earnings meeting.
Samsung Co. (SSNLF), on August 5, 2014, sent out invites to the press for an event that is scheduled for September 3. The invites advise the would-be participants of the event to note down the respective date. Hence, it looks like the rumors of the launch of Galaxy 4 might come true.
Sources have it that the Galaxy Note 4 of Samsung will have stylus software and even larger display size. In addition to the innovative internal improvements, the handset might include features of the Galaxy S5, including water resistance properties and finger print scanners.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 featured a 5.7 inch display, larger from the 5.5 inch display of its Note 2. If the new handset, Galaxy Note 4, does not exceed the display size of Note 3, it will still be an inch larger than iPhone 6, which is expected to have a display size of 4.7 inch. However, rumors have it that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) plans on launching a 4.7 inch display iPhone 6 and another 5.5 inch display iPhone 6. If the rumor turns out to be true, it will not be wrong to say that Samsung Co. (SSNLF) will be up for an immense competition.
The audience of Samsung Notes has increased significantly with the introduction of larger screen Notes. The company shipped around 10 million units of Note 3 within 2 months of its launch; the rate was twice as fast as the Note 2’s rate. If Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) launches iPhone 6 of 5.5 inch display, the users who want bigger Notes are likely to create competition for Samsung.
There is not much information available on the new handset of Samsung since the company has not organized any press event with a certain release date. Nonetheless, the phone is expected to have some innovative features, together with an aluminum body perhaps.
Samsung’s plastic handsets with bendable frames have received much criticism in the past. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been using metal and glass for its handsets since the release of iPhone 4. Let’s see if Samsung carries on with its plastic handsets this time.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has ordered components that can assemble 70 to 80 million of iPhones. Hence, chances are that the company will break its shipment records in the latter part of the year. Samsung Co. (SSNLF)needs to come up with an impressive and innovative handset if it wants to stay in the competition.
