As the iPhone hype is settling down, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) introduces its new in line launch – a new version of iMac with super-sharp retina display. It is believed that the hardware will look very similar to Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s existing iMac productions but the software will be polished up by improved processors, wiFi antennas and a Retina display feature. It’s likely to be labeled as premium as compared to the existing iMac line.

In comparison to the existing Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) resolution display of 1920 x 1080 for 21 inch iMac and 2560 x 1440 for the 27 inch iMac, the new iMac is likely to offer resolutions of 6400 x 3600, 5760 x 3240 and 4096 x 2304.

Next month Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) will make its official launch of the OS X Yosemite and new iPad but it is still unclear whether the new iMac will also be revealed then. The company is also working on new MacBook Air with Retina display as well as Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) TV, but according to rumors these will be available in 2015.

But competition isn’t far behind. Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) yesterday launched its 27 inch with 5k monitor with an impressive resolution of 5120 x 2880 at 218 pixels / inch at a price of $2500. This monitor stands in line to compete with the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Retina MacBook Pro that has a 220 / inch pixel density and is equal to 27 inch iMac.

According to different reports customers have been looking forward to a higher resolution large display along with Retina iMacs by Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). Rumors of Retina iMac have been circulating in the market since 2012 but customers are yet to see the actual product. These delays are likely due to cost and technological challenges.

But now with Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL)’s price set at $2500, it will once again be a challenge for Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) to determine its price, keeping in mind it is the market leader but also wouldn’t want customers to switch to Dell just because of the price. But it is being predicted that the iMac would most probably be priced at $3000.

After its recent launch, Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) has shown its impressive resolution packed with PremierColor technology and an anti-smudge and anti-reflective, edge to edge glass. It also included an integrated media reader, along with 6 USB ports and 16W Harmon Kardon speakers. Video out has Display port of 1.2 for 5kand mini display port for 4k.

After its successful launch, it has left Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) with a challenge to not only beat it in the price category, but also in the features. But Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is known for always stealing the show with its slim and sleek models and always offering a feature that not only gives it a competitive edge, but also motivates consumers to spend extra as compared to the company’s competitor brands. Now it’s just a matter of days till Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) makes its next big reveal. For now the market will soon start buzzing with possible features and specifications on this new upcoming launch.
