Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) was founded in 1975. The company is a world leading provider of Software solutions to businesses and homes. The company helps businesses to operate at their full potential by providing them efficient and effective solutions like cloud and several other applications. One of the famous solutions of the company is the Visual Studio, very famous among the developers. Visual studio is an IDE that is equipped with several tools that allow easy and quick development in ASP.NET, C#, MVC Framework and others. The company is also making efforts in the hardware sector – it has launched the famous Windows 8 and 8.1 smartphones, Nokia Lumia, in collaboration with Nokia Inc. (NYSE:NOK) of course. The smartphones are highly efficient and available at affordable prices.

Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) is now looking forward to opening up a retail store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The store will be just a little off the glass cube store of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). It has been reported that Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) has found a space on Fifth Avenue that was once occupied by the luxurious Fendi – the fashion brand. The store is at 677 Fifth Avenue, near the 53rd Street.

The store has an area of 8700 in square feet. It is a two-storey shop. The space in itself will cost quite a lot for Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) as the ground floor rents on Fifth Avenue have increased. The rent is about $3500 for each square foot on the ground floor. Let’s hope that Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) sees an increase in its sales after opening up the store and spending so much money on it.

Despite the immense rent, the retail store can give Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) an opportunity. New York City is riddled with people from all over the world. Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) can use the store to show the world its efforts in the hardware sector. The company will have an international audience at hand. Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) has seen a rough time in the market recently. It launched its own tablet, Surface, in 2012. However, the sales have been poorer than expected. As a matter of fact, the tablet – Surface – brought a huge loss for the company; in the current fiscal, in the April-June quarter, the company faced a loss worth $363 million. The total losses the company faced in the fiscal 2014 were $676 million.

It is likely that Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) will use this new retail store to promote its smartphones now. The company has taken over the Services and Devices division of Nokia Inc. (NYSE:NOK) which it can exhibit at the new retail store in Manhattan. The company can also bring to the audience its computer peripherals and the Xbox One. The company hopes that this will help to increase the sales and overcome the losses it faced.

Generally, retail stores of Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) see much less traffic than those of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). However, recently, the Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) stores have begun to see more people than before.
