The smartphone market has seen a great hype in the year 2014. And now that the year is about to end, it seems like a perfect time to assess as to which smartphones were the most impressive and which ones grabbed most of the market share.

Starting off with Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE), the year was not so great for this company in terms of financial figures. The company reported huge losses, especially in the smartphone segment. Most of the market analysts are of the view that Sony’s Xperia Z3, though not as impressive as the other companies’ smartphones, was quite a decent improvement in the company’s smartphone series.

Xperia Z3 saw a lot of popularity, especially due to its brightened screen and slimmed design.  The display resolution of this smartphone was a big improvement, for Sony had featured Bravia Technology in its Xperia smartphones; and it attracted a lot of customers into buying the product.

The only not-so-great feature about this phone was its camera; and since this is an age of digital life where people like to capture each and every important moment on the reel, perhaps the weak camera was the reason why this phone did not see strong sale figures.

However, if someone is looking for an affordable phone with a remarkable display resolution, then Xperia Z3 is definitely the choice.

Coming to Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), the company introduced its Nexus 6 in the year 2014, and so, it will not be wrong to say that the company took its smartphone segment seriously this year.

Previous Nexus phones did not feature a strong camera; however, this weakness was overcome in the latest Nexus 6. The good camera comes with a price though. Nexus 6 is quite expensive when compared with the other smartphones in the series.

Samsung is a company well known for its smartphones. But its latest Galaxy Note 4 took the company to a whole new level. Where the Galaxy S series of the company lacked at certain features, Galaxy Note 4 definitely compensated the weaknesses.

With its QHD display resolution and AMOLED technology, the phablet surely blows your mind off.  The display of LG G3 was the best in the past; however, Galaxy Note 4 surpassed it.

Last but not the least, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) also introduced its iPhone 6 in the market this year. iPhone 6 followed its predecessors in the style and fashionable image. This phone is the slickest and niftiest smartphone available in the market to date. What makes iPhone 6 even more popular is the fact that it supports iOS 8 software, which means that the users have the highest quality experience.  The camera in iPhone 6 is also better than its predecessors, especially when it comes to image stabilization. The display and screen is the best so far.

LG G3 and HTC One M8 were also quite remarkable, and have also seen spiking sales figures.
