Two years after its $1.2 billion acquisition by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), Yammer co-founder David Sachs announced on Thursday that he’s leaving the software giant, according to several reports. Sachs’ resignation comes after Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced plans to absorb Yammer into Microsoft’s Outlook and Office 365 development divisions as part of a larger company reorganization.
Since its acquisition in 2012, Yammer has been operating as an independent unit even though its technology was incorporated into several Microsoft products like SharePoint and Office 365. However, the workplace chat service is being moved to the Outlook and Office 365 teams which are lead by Microsoft VP Rajesh Jha. No word on where Sachs is headed next. Shares of MSFT last traded at $44.49, near the high of its 52-week range of $30.84 to $45.71.
