Space-technology company Orbital Sciences Corp(NYSE:ORB) said it successfully launched its Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) satellite from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The satellite was built by the company for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA.

The satellite was successfully deployed into its targeted 430-mile altitude orbit approximately 56 minutes after launch. NASA and Orbital engineers have begun a comprehensive series of in-orbit tests to verify all spacecraft systems are functioning properly, it said. Orbital will manage day-to-day in-orbit operations of the satellite. JPL expects OCO-2 science operations to begin later in 2014. ORB was down 0.3% at $29.91 recently, in a 52-week range of $17.26 to $34.16.

Vimicro International Corporation (ADR) (NASDAQ:VIMC) a provider of video-surveillance technology in China, said it won a competitive bid for the provision of Surveillance Video and Audio Coding-compliant video surveillance products to Handan Municipal Government in Hebei Province, with an estimated contract size of RMB 23 million, or about $3.7 million. Shares in Vimicro were up 4% to $2.55 recently. The stock has traded between $1.10 and $5.18 over the past 52 weeks.
Engility Holdings Inc (NYSE:EGL) said its Dynamics Research unit has won a $13.4 million contract from the U.S Department of Treasury to support its Secure Payment System. The payment system provides secure transmission of payment data and strongly auditable certification of payments for the U.S. government, the company said.The provider of technical consulting, program and business support services said through a system it has developed for the Bureau of the Fiscal Service’s Payment Management, it will support the processing of more than one billion transactions with an estimated value of $2.5 trillion. The contract is valid through 2018. EGL edged up 0.2% to $39.75 recently, in the upper half of its 52-week range between $27.87 and $46.25.
