TechCrunch has confirmed earlier press reports which suggested that Amazon.com, Inc.(NASDAQ:AMZN) will launch a smartphone with 3D technology at its Seattle headquarters on June 18.

The technology blog noted that the new smartphone will feature Omron’s Okao Vision face sensing technology, which can track a user’s head, and recognize faces and facial attributes.

According to TechCrunch, the phone will have a high definition 4.7-inch screen, run a version of Android modified by Amazon called FireOS, and mount six cameras, four of which will be used for head tracking.

AMZN shares were up 1.6% to $328.63 in early trading Friday, within the 52-week range of $265 – $408.06.

Marketwatch reported that Enderle Group analyst Rob Enderle believes the upcoming smartphone will have a 3-D screen that “will allow you to basically have multiple virtual panels you can see into the device.”
