General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) set to revitalize Mid-Sized Trucks

586

Half a decade ago mid-sized trucks were very popular with manufacturers and only nine models of mid-sized trucks existed back then. After the public didn’t show any interest and the market rejected them and these trucks started to cause huge losses manufacturers got afraid and backed out of the mid-sized truck manufacturing. However the trend is back again and manufacturers, which include a few big names, have ventured into this market.

General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) is among the bold ones who have taken this step. The company will launched two midsized trucks this month, which will double the number of midsized trucks in the market and might just prove to be a precursor to a boom in the business for midsized trucks.

Customers are showing widespread interest in General Motors Company (NYSE:GM)’s midsize trucks; preorders have soared up to 40,000 so far. These trucks are being marketed as suburban and urban trucks ready to withstand the harsh roads and other road challenges. They are durable, driver friendly and good for family too (if you are planning picnics). These trucks also come with chrome grill and sophisticated yet durable interior design.

The base engine is a mighty 2.5-liter four-cylinder offering 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque. General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) is advertising heavily, showing rocky areas and steep places where the truck is being driven ferociously by a rugged driver.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be that way because these trucks can be a family ride as well as they have the capacity to accommodate more than 4 people. Its engine begets 20 city mpg, 27 highway mpg and 22 mixed mpg in two-wheel drive form with a 6-speed automatic, which is quite high for a midsize truck.

The Canyon and Colorado boasts of 3.6 liter V6 engine that begets 305 horsepower and 269 feet of torque and giving out 18 city mpg, 26 highway mpg and a mixed rating of 21 mpg in two-wheel-drive models and 17/24/20 mpg in four-wheel drive.

Both the trucks come up with exciting features like a tailgate that won’t slam down because of a torsion bar. The truck also comes with an optional spray bedliner which prevents scratches while carrying cargo in the truck or if u have to put heavy items on the seat; you can even have your dog in the truck without any fears of scratches and damage to the seats.

The gear-on system is an optional bed divider, which helps in creating two-tier loading system that enables you to fit small items inside the bed while large items can be placed above the truck. This feature doubles the truck’s cargo capacity, which makes it perfect for long drives.

GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado by General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) may just be the trucks that will revitalize this market. Ford will also launch its mid-sized truck this winter. With these two big names in the business it will be interesting to see how the market responds and how well do they fair against full sized trucks.
